Athens, GA – Fatal Pedestrian Crash on N Ave Near Strickland Ave
Athens, GA (December 23, 2021) – At 3:45 p.m. on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 21, a fatal pedestrian crash occurred on a roadway in Athens.
According to Athens-Clarke Police, the accident happened on North Avenue around the area of Strickland Avenue. A vehicle was traveling in the area when it suddenly went off the side of the road and onto the sidewalk. The vehicle struck a pedestrian who was walking in the area. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has not yet been formally identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have since identified the suspect involved in the accident as a 31-year-old woman. She was arrested on charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, felony hit-and-run, and failing to maintain her lane.
The roadway was blocked in the area for some time following the collision.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
