Atlanta, GA – One Killed in Fatal DUI Accident on Downtown Connector
Atlanta, GA (December 30, 2021) – One person was killed in a fatal DUI accident on a highway in Atlanta on Thursday morning, December 30.
Atlanta Police confirmed that the accident happened at 4 a.m. around the Williams Street exit on the Downtown Connector. A woman was allegedly driving a 2020 Hyundai pickup truck when she suddenly rear-ended a white 2014 Lexus sedan. The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged as a result.
Several responders were dispatched to the scene of the crash to help, including paramedics and fire crews. Both drivers of the vehicles were injured and rushed to the hospital. The driver of the Lexus died while at the hospital, though she has not yet been identified.
Police discovered that the driver of the Hyundai was driving while intoxicated at the time of the crash. She has since been charged with vehicular homicide, DUI, reckless driving, and more.
The roadway was blocked in multiple lanes for an extended period of time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Police will release more information along the way.
